This course, 2016 Guiding Principle V, Reduce Environmental Impact of Materials, and Guiding Principle VI, Assess and Consider Climate Change Risks, provides strategies for meeting compliance requirements and providing recommended evidence of compliance for the updated 2016 Guiding Principles IV and V. The course offers updates and tools for meeting and documenting compliance with the updated Guiding Principles IV and V, and describes requirements and strategies for meeting updated metrics related to recycled content, biobased content, waste and material management, and ozone depleting compounds. The course includes instruction related to the new Guiding Principle VI, Assess and Consider Climate Change Risks, which directs agencies to integrate climate resilience in building design, construction, and operations and protect Federal facilities from the potential impacts of climate change.
Learning Objectives
This course will cover:
- Updated metric requirements, recommended evidence of compliance, and related resources for meeting Guiding Principles VI and VI;
- Strategies for reducing the environmental impact of materials by specifying recycled and biobased content and green products, and identifying substitutes for ozone-depleting compounds and high global warming potential (GWP) chemicals;
- Decision points and opportunities for increasing waste diversion, recycling in building design, construction, renovation, and operations; and
- Strategies for assessing climate change risks for individual facilities according to mission criticality, potential climate change impacts, and costs.
