Course ID: NIBS-BSSC06
Credits
AIA LU/HSW:1.0, ICC CEU:0.1, PDH:1.0
Description
This presentation will discuss seismic design of masonry using the 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures and the referenced 2013 edition of TMS 402/602. Masonry behavior, material properties, and navigation of the design standards will be presented, as well as design of walls for in plane and out of plane seismic forces using the strength design provisions of TMS 402. The presentation will conclude with an excerpt from the Design Examples document (FEMA P-1051) to illustrate some of the concepts discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completing this course, you will be able to:
- Learn seismic design of masonry structures;
- Learn masonry behavior, materials properties, and design standards;
- Learn the design of masonry walls for in plane and out of plane seismic forces using the strength design provisions of TMS; and
- Learn the masonry design procedure illustrated by a design example.
