The aging infrastructure is a serious problem facing society today. Specifically utility systems and other buried structures exhibit significant deterioration and are approaching the end of their service life. Corrosion is often the primary factor affecting the longevity and reliability of these systems and structures. This course will cover the corrosion mechanisms associated with utilities and buried structures and methods for corrosion prevention and control.

Learning Objectives

The key objectives of this training is to:

• Introduce corrosion and corrosion prevention associated with utilities and associated buried structures;
• Understand atmospheric corrosion and corrosive properties of soils;
• Identify typical situations and soil conditions that increase the corrosion potential of utility systems;
• Identify some of the prevalent internal corrosion mechanisms affecting utility conduit and associated structures;
• Identify methods for corrosion prevention and control;
